Question by Michelle P: Canadian Income Tax – Eligbile “Work @ Home Expenses)?
I am a salaried employee who works from home. Fortunately my company pays for many expenses (company car/gas/insurance, cell phone, home phone, internet). However, we are given T2200 forms each year to deduct a portion of our Electricity/Heat/Water etc. I use the home space inexcess of 50% of the time for my work (so I am eligible for deductions)….it is roughly 3.5% of my total square footage of my house. However, I understand that unless you are a commissioned employee you cannot deduct property taxes etc. I also understand you cannot deduct mortgage “interest”, BUT can I deduct a portion of my mortgage “principle” as it pertains to the ratio of space I occupy for my work? Look forward to your advice, and thank you in advance.

I don’t have any experience with the whole ‘work at home’ issue, but one thing I can tell you is that you’ve got the mortgage issue backwards.

If anything is deductible, it is the interest on the mortgage, not the principal. Principal is never deductible

Question by denise: What is a ” wrap around mortgage”?

Best answer:

Answer by realtor.sailor
It’s used when the seller is financing the purchase. That’s where a seller has a mortgage on the property and rather than require the buyer to obtain a new mortgage which would payoff the seller’s mortgage, the seller holds a mortgage that “wraps around” his mortgage. Here’s a simple example; the seller’s mortgage is $ 500 per month. He sells the property and the mortgage payment from the buyer is $ 750 per month. That makes the seller’s mortgage payment and puts $ 250 in his pocket.
This vehicle may not be available with today’s mortgages, but you don’t know until you ask.

Question by Katherine: My friend stole from me, what should I do?
So first thing is I lent this girl who I used to be friends with my $ 90 bag.She told me she was going to buy it from me for $ 90 so I beleived her she’s a pretty good liar. So about 2 months passed I asked her for the money she told me things like “my dad has no money” “we need to use the money for rent or we’ll get kicked out. So after that I started to think that she wasn’t going to give me the money and I remember one day I was so close to taking the bag and going home I literally threw all her stuff out of my bag and got up to leave but then she made me feel guilty she’s like “don’t be a b*tch”

So then I invited her over to my house I had a pair of $ 60 headphones on my desk she looked at them and said “I like these can I borrow them?” and I said no. So then the next day I was looking for my headphones and I couldn’t find them anywhere I checked EVERYWHERE in my room like 10 times and I couldn’t find them. I asked everybody in my house if they had seen them I even asked my mom to check my room for me they were no where. So I call her up she kept denying it but I told her it was %100 percent obvious that she stole them. Then the next day I get this HILARIOUS text message telling me that they just magically apeared in her friends house and I don’t even know this friend. She also stole a shirt of mine.

I tried to call her today and I’m very angry she gave her phone to this girl so I can’t talk to her. I don’t know how to find her and get my stuff back. I really want to call the cops on her but I’m sure they have way better things to do and I don’t want to waste their time. I wish she would give me back my stuff.
She’s obviously not my friend anymore and whether or not I get my stuff back (lets hope to god I do!) I’m neer talking to her again she’s a horrible person to do such a thing and I will have nothing to do with a person like this.

Two years ago, Debra and her family lived in a nearly 2000 square foot home on an acre and a half of land. Then her husband lost his job and they began to work 4 jobs between them to pay the mortgage, until one day they remembered they had a choice. Before having their son, Debra and her husband Gary had spent 9 years living in very tiny homes in South America. Living small hadn’t felt like a sacrifice, but a way to stay focused on what is important. They decided they wanted to get back to that. They stopped working so hard, sold or gave away all of their extra stuff and began looking for the perfect tiny home. Debra had always liked the Mississippi shotgun style homes, and one day, while browsing craigslist, they noticed an ad for a local Arkansas company custom building tiny homes for a price that could mean an end to house payments. Six weeks and 000 later they had their own fully paid-off dwelling. Today, Debra, her husband and 13-year-old son live in a 320-square foot home that is not a sacrifice, but exactly what they need.
